Aspen Power Catamarans builds inboard and outboard cruisers and yachts in four buildings at the Port of Skagit Airport Business Park just 5 minutes off I-5 in Burlington, WA, USA. Next Generation of Boat Builders
Aspen is partnering with local and regional organizations to create awareness about careers in the marine industry, as well as inspire talented individuals to explore these careers through a variety of immersive activities. We are always looking for innovative and engaging ways to promote boat building as a career and to attract career-minded talent.

Apprenticeships
Aspen has an active relationship with the Skagit Valley College Marine Tech Institute in Anacortes. Students enrolled in the 1-year certification program, or 2-year degree program, may apply for the Aspen SVC Apprentice Program. Students support their education and financial obligations by working part-time at Aspen in the morning while attending classes in the afternoon. Aspen Apprentices are selected based on their individual talent, as well as their career goals. Aspen Apprentices have the opportunity to work additional hours during school breaks and may be promoted to full-time employment upon graduation from their course of study.

Current SVC Marine Tech students may speak to their instructor about the program. All Aspen candidates may inquire about their eligibility to participate in the program.

The ideal candidate will have a mix of woodworking skills along with an eye for how to generally build things. Responsibilities of this role include set up, layout, and/or construction of wood structures. Pattern, build, assemble, install boat interior components including vinyl wrapped panels, cabinetry, and any other related joinery. Install exterior wood features including cap rails, flooring, teak tabletops, etc. The applicant should be self-motivated, organized, and detail oriented. Applicants should be confident managers/leaders who take pride in a job done effieiently and professionally with the ability to adapt to changes.

The following are required to excel at this position:

  • Experience with marine wood and vinyl interiors required
  • Reading documentation, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements
  • Taking measurements and calculating size and amounts of materials needed. Basic knowledge and use of epoxy resins and other adhesives to bond parts and perform basic fiberglass work.
  • Experience with standard woodworking tools including table saw, miter saw, jointer, planer, router, sanders, etc. are a must.
  • Buildout of staterooms, heads, salons, galley, etc.

This position is focused on the install of boat systems and hardware, including plumbing, tanks, wire harnesses, engines, thru-hulls, gunwale, bilge pumps, minor lamination, deck rigging and hatches, and assisting with window installation. The ideal candidate will have experience with mechanical and electrical installation systems. Knowledge of 12 volt and 120 volt electrical and HVAC systems is preferred. Employees are required to own and operate their own hand and power tools necessary for the position (Aspen has an employee assistance tool purchase program for employees to acquire the tools needed for the job).

The following are required to excel at this position.

Experience:

  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Understand 12-volt circuit electricity
  • Basic installation of 120-volt circuits, breakers and outlets
  • Basic plumbing with hoses and PEX tubing
  • Know how to use basic hand tools and measuring devices

Responsibilities & Requirements

Aspen’s lamination team is looking to fill a full-time position as patch & detail. Applicants will have 1-2 years of experience in fiberglass hand lay-up, chopper-gun utilization, fabrication of structural parts, stiffening, painting, and finishing, as well as a basic knowledge of common measuring tools and precision measuring gages. Preferred applicants will have experience with new construction, patch and detail (PND), gelcoat repair, mold preparation and tooling. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, organized, and detail oriented. They will be confident and competent technicians who take pride in a job done efficiently and professionally. Pay range: $18- $24 (DOE- depending on experience)

Aspen Power Catamarans has developed a new carbon fiber composite tender.  Sales have been strong and our lamination team needs to expand.

This Senior Laminator knows how to build fiberglass parts.  They are capable of running chopper guns and gel coaters.   They are very capable at rolling air out and putting roving, chop strand and foam cones into composite structures.  May have experience with infused composites, mold construction and fiberglass repair.  Is familiar with light gun maintenance.

Pay range $24 – $30 per hour (DOE – depending on experience)

40 hours in 4 ½ days with Friday afternoons off.

We are currently looking for a career minded individual to fill a mechanic position in our service department. The ideal candidate is able to perform tasks such as oil changes, battery replacements, electronic installs and more. They love to find the problem and solve it once. They are able to communicate with owners honestly and track hours for accurate invoicing.

Preferred applicants are problem solvers who have experience with a wide range of tools.

Experience:

  • Must have 2 – 8 years proven experience in marine service highly desired, RV or automotive could apply
  • Experience with 12V wiring, 120V wiring and marine electrical and plumbing
  • Experience in oil changes, gear box oil changes, bilge pump replacement and shaft alignments
  • Familiar with industry-standard equipment and technical expertise
  • Must have competent, organized hand tools for above
  • Must follow all safety standards and procedures
  • Marine electronics installations desirable

Pay range : $22 – $37 (Depending on experience)

Aspen Power Catamarans has developed a new carbon fiber composite tender. Sales have been strong and our lamination team needs to expand.

This entry level position needs team members who love to work with their hands – building, fixing, painting, doing. This is not an office job. Our team uses exceptionally strong adhesives, fiberglass and carbon fibers in the construction of boats in a warm, well-ventilated facility. You will be working with and learning from seasoned veterans.

Must be able to intermittently lift up to 50 lbs or more.

Transferrable Skills

The senior marine electrician will perform a wide range of tasks in the sub/final assembly jobs to include AC/DC wiring, install wire harnesses, helm electronics, plumbing, bilge pump installation. Knowledge of marine electrical systems, i.e. air conditioning, marine generators, Garmin electronics, solar panels. Knowledge of 12-volt and 120-volt electrical and HVAC systems is required.
